(Sacramento) - The California Republican Party and Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, the second-highest elected Republican in the state, today announced the reauthorization and expansion of the Poizner-underwritten bounty registration grant. (The original grant provided by Poizner, providing an additional $3 per verified registration, will be extended beyond the August 31 program date through the October 20 registration deadline. The CRP's existing bounty payment will also be augmented by an additional $2 from Commissioner Poizner, bringing the total available bounty to $8 per verified registration for volunteer organizations and county Republican committees. ("Steve Poizner continues to demonstrate his strong commitment to the Republican Party in California. Steve led the effort to defeat Proposition 93 and protect voter-approved term limits, and has recognized the importance of party building efforts. Moreover, he has backed it up with direct support for our volunteers in the field," said California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring. "Our partnership in expanding Republican voter registration is the latest example of Commissioner Poizner's commitment to building the California Republican Party." ("Our Republican activists and volunteers have been extremely grateful for the resources Steve Poizner has provided," said Nancy Comaford, Bounty and Voter Registration Chairman for the California Federation of Republican Women. "His support will help us register yet more Republicans and keep our activists energized, bringing us that much closer to a Republican victory in November." ("Republicans are excited in their efforts to elect John McCain and the entire Republican ticket," said Tom Bordonaro, Chairman of the San Luis Obispo County Central Committee, whose volunteers have registered over 450 new voters under the program. "These additional resources from Steve Poizner will serve us well in our efforts to continue bringing new California Republicans into the fold and to keep our volunteer clubs supplied with the resources they need to grow our party from the ground up," added Bordonaro. (The updated voter registration efforts backed by Poizner will begin on registrations submitted September 1st and extend through the official close of registration, October 20th. (Republican committees and volunteer groups interested in participating in the program are encouraged to contact Bryan Burch via email at bounty@cagop.org.
